Course Objective

The aim of this course is to instruct the students the techniques used for making machine-woven carpets, and to have them make machine-woven carpet designs suitable for production, location or style.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   be informed of the techniques for machine-woven carpets,
2   recognize the carpets produced by these techniques,
3   distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of the carpet making techniques in accordance with both production and the user,
4   elicit the trends of current home decoration and interpret them,
5   make carpet designs suitable for a certain location or style.

2 Location choosing for carpet designs. General information about the machine-woven carpet techniques and dispatching the homeworks.
3 Discussing the data related to the projects.
4 Discussing the data related to the projects and beginning the sketch works.

6 The weaving technique for Wilton machine-woven carpets; Going on with the project.
7 The weaving technique for Axminster machine-woven carpets; Going on with the project.
8 The producing tehnique for Autotuft and Handtuft carpets; Going on with the project.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

At the beginning of the term, the instructor usually instructs about the machine-woven carpets production. The students research the techniquees in detail as home work. After the research, the students are asked to submit their homework. Also, if possible, an excursion is organized to a factory producing machine-woven carpets so as to learn visually.
Students choose resideces having certain features from current home decoration magazines to make carpet designs. By considering location, weaving techniques, decoration style, originating point and current decoration trends, the students draw carpet design sketches (on computer or conventionally) which makes up a collection. These sketches is submitted including the designing process.

Assessment Criteria

For homework and projects, the students are supposed to edit their studies by reaching a lot of resources as much as possible and show that they have comprehend the subject and are able to explain it to others.
The avaluation of the project is

Attendance is evaluated in accordance with the instructor's opinion by considering the student's attendance and in-class performance.

Course Policies and Rules

80% attendance is compulsory.
The students will be in class at the time of the lesson.
The students are suppose to represent their homework at the scheduled time, late performances will affect the grade.
The projects are tobe submitted on the shedulled day, late submissions are not evaluated.
