Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The instructor informs the students about palace carpets in Ottoman period and the development and features of Hereke carpets. He also instructs the motifs used in palace carpets in Ottoman period and their features with examples as well as their usages in compositions. The students are asked to make original carpet patterns using these motifs after seeing the applied samples on carpets, which they are familiar with in Turkish Patterns course.
Application works are realized by many sketch exercises on sketch paper which are calculated in accordance with the required knots rate and carpet dimension. After scanning, the desirable sketches are turned into required graph paper dimensions by using a pixel-based program, and the motifs are corrected, the compositions are coloured and applied colour variations.
