Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students the role and the importance of Turkish art of calligraphy in book arts, its aesthetic qualifications, materials, the practicing system in classic education system and use of technology in this process.

1   1. At the end of this course, these are expected from the students; Calligraphy, and plastic arts
2   2. Kinds of technique used in calligraphy ; to explain the stages of preparation of these materials
3   3. the stages classical practice in calligraphy education , to explain and express in this stages

5   5. To be able to benefit from modern technology in the implementation of calligraphy writing

1 Plastic Expression ; harmony and aesthetic values in writing, in Turkish art of calligraphy, Calligraphy examples in epigraphs and inscribed panels; practice and project works
2 Ornamental features in Turkish art of calligraphy. Kinds of Calligraphy commonly used by the Turks
3 Application of different techniques such as Painting, ornamental, Marbled, Zerendud, etc " Evaluation of practicing files and completion of projects.
4 The preparation of preferred basic materials. Unit composition
5 Master calligraphers in Turkish art of calligraphy; practice and project works
6 The richness of script in Turkish art of calligraphy, text features and common phrases.
7 The richness of composition in Turkish art of calligraphy, features and common phrases.
8 The richness of text in Turkish art of calligraphy,
9 The kinds of writing materials: Types of inks, ultramarine inks, practice and project works
10 Analysis of compositions in Turkish art of Calligraphy designs.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course has 2 credits for theoretical knowledge and 2 credits for applications. During the semester, the attendance will be taken and there will be a midterm for students to comprehend the subjects in lessons. . In the midterm, the degree of comprehension and understanding of the subjects in given course books and also the degree of skills in applications will be evaluated. . The 30% of arithmetic mean of midterms and attendance and the 30% of the final exam will be taken in to consideration. Homework and a presentation will be expected from students. The attendance in this applied course is important so the attendance will also be evaluated. The first semester project evaluation will include the evaluation of files and project studies regarding order and diligence in design stages.In order to number of questions in the exams, the mark distributions out of 100 points will be announced before the exams and the total result will be evaluated. The homework, presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100 points.

Assessment Criteria

The distribution to be made over 100 full grades according to the number of questions asked in the exams will be specified before the exam, and the total score calculated according to the answers will be evaluated.
The homework given in the course will be evaluated over 100 full points, taking into account the content and presentation criteria.
In the project evaluation, the student's work will be evaluated in the context of the principles of correctness, order and diligence and over 100 full points

Course Policies and Rules

The course begins with theoretical description, drawing with the help of visuals and personal applications about related subjects. Students who are late have right to enter the course in next half hour. Students who come to class after that time are evaluated as attended half of the class . At the beginning of the next class, stages of the works are examined, mistakes are criticized and discussed; then the students begin their new application in studios.
