Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students screen printing techniques, batik techniques and their applications.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define the main concepts that explain screen printing and batik
2   To be able to classify the designs and compositions that exist in traditional prints in order to prepare surfaces for screen printing.
3   To be able to create new designs that are derived from screen printing, batik motifs and compositions.
4   To be able to prepare screen printing
5   To be able to apply the techniques of dying and printing that are used in batik.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

During the course, all the sources relating to the printing and dying techniques that are used in traditional scarf printing will be scanned, historical examples will be studied and new designs and applications will be developed according to the stylistic characteristics of various examples.Theoretical work will be based on the research and notes of the lecturer in charge of the course Practice work will be carried out in ateliers under the lecturer s supervision.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The evaluation criterias are based primarly on the principle that student s work should be in accordance with the given subject matter and be successful in translating his/her design into the finished application.
Student s parcipation in the course and his/her cooperation in group projects will also be taken into account.

Assessment Criteria

Project work and the presentation performance will be evaluated seperately on 100 points basis. %60 of the Project points and %40 of the performance points will add up to the final result.
