Course Objective

The evaluation of sign and symptoms of poisoning patient, learning the management of treatment, evaluating the flow charts of diagnosis and treatment, learning the effectiveness of decontamination methods, learning the antidote and principles of use, to make a decision for follow-up

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Management to the Poisoned Patient (Advanced Life Support in the Poisoned Patient , Vital Signs and Toxic Syndromes, to make a decision for follow-up)
2 History of poisoning, frequent poisonings in the world and in Turkey, role of the Poison Information Centers, non-toxic exposure)
3 Techniques and their effectiveness are used to prevent absorption(Syrup of Ipecac, gastric lavage, activated charcoal, cathartics and whole Bowel Irrigation, etc.
4 Techniques and their effectiveness are used to enhance elimination (Forced diuresis, manipulation of urinary pH and extracorporeal techniques)
5 Antidotes and use of evidence-based
6 Laboratory principles and diagnostic imaging in the management of poisoned patient
7 Cardiovascular principles in the management of poisoned patient (toxic agents which cause to blood pressure, heart rate and conduction disturbances , diagnosis and management
8 Neurological principles in the management of poisoned patients (toxic agents to the CNS, diagnosis and management)
9 Respiratory principles in the management of poisoned patients (toxic agents to the respiratory system , diagnosis and management)
10 Gastrointestinal principles in the management of poisoned patients (gastrointestinal irritants, toxic agents to the liver, diagnosis and management)
11 Neurological principles in the management of poisoned patients (nephrotoxic agents, diagnosis and management)
12 Fluids-Electrolytes and Acid-Base Disturbances in the Poisoned Patient (toxic agents which cause to fluids-electrolytes and acid-base balance disorders)
13 Reproductive and perinatal principles in the toxicology (teratogenic agents, toxicology problems in the perinatal, neonatal withdrawal syndrome and transition to milk)
14 Reproductive and perinatal principles in the toxicology (teratogenic agents, toxicology problems in the perinatal, neonatal withdrawal syndrome and transition to milk)
