Course Objective

To learn cellular and molecular mechanism in toxicology, research methods, chemicals that cell injury, various poisonings, action mechanism of antidotes and antimetabolites, acute and chronic toxicity

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define the toxicology , to express the fields and history of toxicology
2   To learn the concepts of toxic dose and side effects, to distinguish dose-response relationship.
3   To evaluate the risk in toxicology
4   To apply the toxicity assessment methods in experimental animals, to relate to prediction of toxicity in human
5   To relate with toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics
6   To define the molecular mechanism in toxicology
7   To interpret the specific organ toxicity

1 Introduction of Toxicology 1: Definition of toxicology, fields and history
2 Introduction of Toxicology 2: Toxic dose, side effect, advers effect concepts, dose-response relationship, risk assessment of toxicology
3 Pharmacokinetic, toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic principles
4 Evaluation of preclinical toxicity in drug development (National and international regulations,GLP, toxicity tests and current guidelines)
5 Molecular mechanism in toxicology -1 - Cell bioloy - Necrosis - Apoptosis - Oxidation-phosphorylation uncoupling
6 Molecular mechanism in toxicology -2 - Mutagenicity, mechanism and evaluation of mutagenicity - Mechanisms of DNA repair and cell replication - Carcinogenesis, mechanism and carcinogens (oncogenes in cell cycle, tumor suppressor genes - inorganic, organic, hormonal, movie-fiber carcinogens)
7 Target Organ Toxicity-1 - Toxic response of the hematologic system (erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets and hemostasis) - Toxic response of the respiratory system (lungs structure-function, the pathophysiological response, mechanisms of lung injury and pulmonary toxic agents)
8 Target Organ Toxicity-2 - Toxic response of the immune system (immune responses and immunomodulation induced by toxins) Cardiovascular toxicity
9 Target Organ Toxicity-3 - Toxic response of the liver (liver structure-functions, liver damage types and hepatotoxic agents)
10 Target Organ Toxicity-4 - Toxic response of the kidney (renal structure-function, the pathophysiological response, kidney damage mechanisms and nephrotoxic agents)
11 Target Organ Toxicity-5 - Toxic response of the nervous system (structure-functions of the nervous system, neural mechanisms of toxicity and neurotoxic agents)
12 Target Organ Toxicity-6 - Toxic response of the cardiac system (cardiac system physiology- functions, cardiac function abnormalities, cardiotoxicity mechanisms, cardiotoxic agents)
13 Target Organ Toxicity-7 - Toxic response of the vascular system (vascular system physiology-functions, vascular dysfunction, vascular toxicity mechanism and vasculotoxic agents)
14 Target Organ Toxicity-8 - Toxic response of the endocrine system( endocrine system physiolgy-functions, toxicity mechanism and toxic agents ) - Toxic response of the reproductive system (reproductive system physiology -functions and repro-toxic agents)
