Course Objective

To help students understand basic concepts and terminology relevant to digital animation. To help students gain proficiency and familiarity in digital animation techniques.

1 Introduction to video and motion graphics: basic concepts and terminology
2 Introduction to video editing
3 A brief introduction to working with digital audio
4 Introduction to motion graphics
5 A review of timing and spacing, using digital animation software
6 Working with multiple moving image sources
7 Introduction to moving image processing
8 An overview of different techniques for processing moving images
9 An overview of color adjustments in moving images
10 An overview of different post-production techniques
11 An overview of kinetic typography
12 Introduction to 2.5D and 3D
13 Introduction to lights and lighting in digital environments
14 Introduction to working with cameras in animation software

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures cover digital animation terminology and concepts; students, then, are assigned in-class exercises to gain familiarity with said concepts.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Homework assignments make up 50% of the final course grade; a final project makes up the other 50%.

Assessment Criteria

For the midterm, students are expected to complete the exercises assigned to them. For the final, students are expected to develop and produce a project on their own. Midterms are graded based on students' proficiency, while final projects are graded based on their level of creativity and level of difficulty, as well as students' level of proficiency.
Assignments and projects submitted past their respective deadlines are not accepted.
