Course Objective

Modern Cinema History I course has been opened as a common and theoretical lesson for all departments of Department of Film Design.
The aim, content and expected contribution to the students of this course is as follows:
Students taking this course are expected to
*know the changes in global cinema especially after the Second World War,
*know important cinema trends and concepts such as Free Cinema, French New Trend Cinema, New Cinema, Third World Cinema, Young German Cinema, Italian Cinema after New Reality, American Independent Cinema so as to understand the contributions of modern trends and events to modern cinema,
*comment the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the countries that have realized these cinema incidences
*identify the sample films of cinema incidences and know their directors
*learn their contributions to global and modern cinema.


Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   identify social, cultural and historical changes emerged especially in European Cinema after the Second World War in global cinema,
2   know and explain the contributions of improving modern trend or incidences to modern cinema,
3   identify important formations ( Free Cinema, French New Trend Cinema, New Cinema, Third World Cinema, Young German Cinema, Italian Cinema after New Reality, American Independent Cinema ), exemplify, compare and comment the films belonging to trends,
4   identify the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the countries where important cinema incidences happen, and indicate their effects on cinema,
5   . identify important films of cinema trends and happenings, and explain significant directors and cinema perceptivity and exemplify them,
6   . exemplify the contributions of cinema happenings to global and modern cinema comparatively and comment them.
