Course Objective

To utilize the science of textile and to supply all knowledge during vocational training on textile designment for students . To share the cronologic development period process of textile technology , textile designment and textile design styles. The materials ,technics ,concepts used in notions production process of weaving and printing technics which are the essentials of textile technology during historical period , are aimed to be given cultural interactive relation , art movements , technological development and variations , artistic solutions supported by visiual presentations .

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The background of the education on textile designment is pointed by students
2   As a textile designer , to have the knowledge ofn technological development and designment periods and can practice this data.
3   In the light of textile history students to have the information on development periods of textile technology , textile designment and textile pattern styles and all the necessary equipment.
4   To be aware of the production periods of the basic textile departments such as weaving ,and printing technics, materials used , technics and notions
5   To teach the information on interactive relation , art movements , social development and movements of technical and artistic textile purview .

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 General information on the History of textile . Short view on the effective periods on weaving , dying , and printing technology and textile designment
2 Classifications of structures of textiles according to structure and yarn systems Yarn production and development steps/phases of loom mechanisms
3 Classification of weaving looms as gripper shuttle looms and shuttleless looms and the samples produced in these looms
4 Usage of gripper shuttle looms in various civilizations and design samples of the production on these looms
5 View Starting from Pazırık carpet woven shuttleless textiles. Shuttleless textile development history with Kopt weave fabric and Anatolia , Middle East , Asia, America weaving fabric.
6 The development of modern weaving design and the laces which are a milestone on the development period of industrial weaving designment .
7 Contemporary weaving technologies. Samples of modern fabric production methods , reformist/modernist fabric designments and then samples from periods lived with art of textile
8 Mid term exam
9 To transfer the basic determinations about dying and printing , to clarify the classifications about dying and printing technics and to give the general information. To teach the general information on the natural dying sources.What is natural dying Vegetable , animal and inorganic based natural dying sources classified through antique period and theis usage methods
10 Designing the surface of the fabric with dying method. To review of reserve technics. Tie dye physical methods as sewing technic , plangi, clamp and shibori and to teach production stage step by step which supported by the samples
11 Designing the surface of the fabric with dying method. To review the reserve technic covering surface with natural material .Batic ( reserve with wax/candle , ) ajarakh ( reserve with clay ) and reserve with cola technics were informed step by step supported also with the samples
12 To inform about basis of the printing technic that is coloring the surface of the textile locally with one or more coloring material by printing on .Print ing kinds as wooden hand print ( hand printing) , discharge printing ,William Morris discharging print practices-Art craft ) blaudruck , metal pattern print , toile jouy , monocrome print and all production styles
13 Chintz, calico, chinoiserie, Paisley, printed fabrics are explained also with visiual examples Perrotin print , relief print , weft print (chine print ) development during time periods and their practices that are explained visiually also.
14 Application principles of deep print , roller print , film print , rotation film printing are explained also visiually.

1.It is compulsory to maintain 70% of class attendance.
2. Any attempt for plagiarism result in disciplinary penalty.
3. Absence in the class is not a valid excuse for late submission of the projects and assignments.
4. In case of the late submissions, students lose point equal to one letter note for each day right after the dead-line.
