Course Objective

This class aims to have the students of Painting Department learn about Fresco which is an old painting technique; and practice it so that this significant technique is kept alive.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   possess distinctive knowledge about the Fesco Technique,which is as old as the history of painting itself.
2   have exclusive and rare skills by means of accumulated knowledge about the materials and experience in execution.
3   be able to use this methot together with the means of expression of contemporary art,when required.
4   be able to realize professional applications with this technique,when requested.
5   be able to readily take part in archaeologial excavations and restorations,owing to their unique experience and knowledge.

Course Contents

1 Fresco in the course of history
2 Evalution with visual examples
3 Design themes,informing students about the project presentation
4 Groundwork for the application
5 Preparation of lime that is suitable for fresco
6 Preparation of Fresco paints
7 Washing and driying the Sand
8 Checking the paints
9 Sieving the dried sand in order to seperate it to three different grit sizes
10 Preparation of a support for fresco
11 Application of mortar with medium grit sand
12 Application of mortar with medium grit sand
13 Delivery and the selection of designs
14 Evaluation of the term work

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1.Students are provided with theoretical information about the Fresco Technique,together with visual examples.
2.It's expected that the students will prepare and deliver a project presentation file intended for execution,that also contains information about the designing stages.
3.Students will prepare a term homework about Fresco.
4.A fresco application is realized under the guidance of an instructor,that has a duration of no longer than 6 hours,in line with the nature of the technique.
