Course Objective

Define the basic pathological topics of neoplasia including terminology of cancer,
carcinogenesis, mechanisms of differentiation and transformation of the neoplastic
cells, mechanisms of cell death, angiogenesis, invasion and metastasis, oncogene and
tumor suppressor genes. Define the histopathological and cytopathological features of
cancer of various organs. In laboratory lessons perform the microscopic examination of
histological slides and smears.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Capable to express general terminology of the cancer.
2   Be able to recognize and understand the the molecular mechanisms of cancer
3   Knows examples of specific types of cancer with histological and cytopathological
4   Capable to plan a research project using histopathologic and cytologic methods
5   Be able to know ethical issues and achieve evidence based knowledge in oncologic pathology
