Course Objective

To obtain information about the history of the four rightly guided caliphs, Umayyads and Abbasids

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   explain the problems emerged after the death of Prophet Muhammad and appointment procedures of the first four caliphs
2   summarize the conquests succeeded in the period of the first four caliphs
3   explain the Diwan Organization established in the period of Caliph Omar
4   explain and interpret the reasons for the murder of Caliph Othman and the phases of conflict between Caliph Ali and Muawiya
5   question the political events of the period of the first three Umayyad Caliphs and the basic principles of Umayyad State comparing with the previous period
6   tell the elements led to fall of Umayyad State
7   express the periods of the history of Abbasids and their characteristics
8   explain cultural and civil developments of Abbasid period generally
