Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide the students with the analytical and theoretical skills and advanced level of knowledge to understand dynamics, processes and evolution of Turkish politics. The course follows a historical approach and examines historical evolution of Turkish politics. Following, the emphasis shifts to thematic issues and current topics shaping Turkish politics.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Acquire advanced knowledge in Turkish politics within its historical background
2   Evaluate critically key issues and basic debates shaping Turkish politics
3   Endowed with the theoretical background and analytical tools to grasp developments in Turkish politics
4   Understand and analyze ideologies, political parties, basic institution, political culture and political processes in Turkish politics and its evolution in history
5   Acquire advanced knowledge on a particular topic through research paper

Assessment Criteria

The students
1. will understand basic institutions, ideologies, political processes and political culture shaping Turkish politics.
2. will develop analytical skills to analyze current topics and problems in Turkish politics.
3. will write a research paper and scholarly develop an argument regarding an issue of their own interest related with Turkish politics.

1. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
2. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
3. All assignments should be submitted on time. Otherwise will not be accepted
