Course Objective

In this course, it is aimed to train psychiatric nurses, who can take on the care responsibility of individuals and families with mental disorders, are informed about psychosocial interventions and some therapies in the field of psychiatry, able to question health politics in the world and our country, sensitive to ethical principles, aware of responsibilities, skilful at problem solving and critical thinking.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. The student can comprehend the neurocognitive and psychosocial reasons, epidemiology, indications and current treatment of mental illness. 2
2   The student can use the knowledge obtained in the field of psychiatric nursing in assessing the psychosocial dimensions of patients hospitalized in
3   3. The student can use the knowledge obtained in the field of psychiatric nursing, as well as the skills of problem solving and practice in interdisciplinary studies.
4   4. The student can recognize the basic knowledge and constituents of psychosocial interventions and practices (social support groups, social skill training programs, group treatments with an integrated approach, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychoeducation, family interventions).
5   5. The student can question the health politics in the world and our country.

Skills of interpretation, recollection, decision-making, explanation, knowledge combination are assessed by means of exams.
In their homeworks/presentations, the students are assessed in terms of defining, analysing, planning, deciding the cases, as well as conducting and assessing the interventions.
