Course Objective

Knowing the difference between linguistics and grammar comprehends of linguistics approach to language and examine methods of language; presenting linguistics area, linguistics phenomena which examine by each linguistics area and basic concepts that used to examine linguistics phenomena; to teach examine Turkish linguistically.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding how the linguistics examines the language and from this view realizes difference between linguistics and grammar.
2   Understanding the difference between the properties of human language and other communication strings.
3   Knowing the basic theoretical and methodological principle of linguistics.
4   Knowing linguistics area, linguistics phenomena which examine by each linguistics area and basic concepts that used to examine linguistics phenomena
5   Knowing describe Turkish with linguistics concepts and methods.

1 What is the linguistics What is the linguist What is the difference linguistics from grammar
2 Linguistics examines the language. Linguistics is a descriptive science.
3 Linguistics examines the language itself and for itself.
4 Linguistics examines the language simultaneously.
5 The spoken language comes before written language for linguistics.
6 The nature and characteristics of human language; 1 a. Human language is a cognitive process activity. b. Human language is a string of formal representation. c. Basic function of human language signification.
7 The characteristics of human language 2; ç. Human language can be deformed. d. Human language is productive. e. Human language is paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations jobs. f. Double articulation of human language.
8 General repeat and evaluation
9 Branches of linguistics 1: Phonetics, phonology. Sounds, dialects, prosodic.
10 Branches of linguistics 2: Morphology, word, morpheme, lexical morphemes and grammatical morphemes.
11 Branches of linguistics 3: Syntax. Sentence, utterance; phrasal.
12 Branches of linguistics 4: Semantics. Meaning, lexical meaning/ grammatical meaning, lexical meaning/ contextual meaning.
13 Language/ dialect/ mouth/pidgin/ Creole/idiolect: Turkish language or Turkish dialect
14 The classification of language; Diachronic classification and synchronic classification
15 Final Exam
