Course Objective

Introduction to aviation and space activities, and airspace and outer space, and aircraft and space vehicles within the scope of public international law; and evaluating the related issues with regard to de lege ferenda.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to recognize international air law and international space law with their various dimensions
2   To be able to explain the basic concepts and principles of international air and space law
3   To be able to express the regulation process, scope and effect of the sources of international air and space law
4   To be able to define the legal status, boundaries and legal regimes of airspace and outer space
5   To be able to explain the legal regimes of aviation and space activities
6   To be able to describe and analyze the issues related to air and space law

2 Definition, scope, parts, relationship with other branches of law and sources of international air law
3 Codifıcation process of the legal status of the airspace, early debates and attitudes of states, regulations of 1919 Paris Convention and 1944 Chicago Convention
4 International institutions on aviation
5 The meaning of sovereignty over the airspace
6 Horizontal boundaries and vertical limit of the airspace
7 Intrusion and protection of the airspace
8 Mid-term exam
9 Aircraft, and disputes on the international airspace of the Aegean Sea
10 The regimes of international air navigation and international air transport
11 Air transport in the European Union
12 The basic concepts, sources and principles of international space law
13 New legal issues related to outer space
14 The legal regime of the aerospacecraft
