Course Objective

Explaining the basic concepts and institutions of consumer law, in this regard consumer transactions, parties and subject of these transactions and evaluation of rules relating to the protection of consumers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to define consumer transactions and parties of these transactions.
2   Ability to interpret the rules of consumer law.
3   Ability to reveal the connection of consumer law to the other branches of law.
4   Ability to apply the rule of consumer law for the settlement of disputes.
5   Ability to determine the jurisdiction of the arbitration committee for consumer and consumer courts and have full knowledge of dispute resolution procedures and jurisdictional issues in consumer matters.

Course Contents

1 General principles regarding consumer law.
2 The reasons and methods of consumer protection.
3 The concepts of consumer transactions, including what consumer, seller and trader means.
4 The unfair conditions in the consumer contracts.
5 Defective good, responsibility of defective good delivery, alternative rights of consumer, varranty deed.
6 Defective service, responsibility of defective service delivery, alternative rights of consumer.
7 Installment sales contracts.
8 Consumer credit contracts.
9 Mortgage agreements and residence sales contracts with prepayment.
10 Contracts negotiated away from business premises.
11 Distance contracts and subscription agreements.
12 Timeshare, long-term holiday product contract and package travel contract.
13 Misleading advertising and unfair commercial practices.
14 The jurisdiction of the arbitration committee for consumer and consumer courts and their trial procedures.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

After explaining the subject by the lecturer, the students, who are prepared by examining the scientific works and related legislation before the lecture, are expected to participate in open discussions followed by expression of Lecturer.
