Course Objective

To make an evaluation on the level of Turkey by analyzing different dimensions and policies of state in this area.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have information about security concept and different dimensions of security perception
2   To have information about the security institutions which belong to state.
3   To have information about the security policies of state.
4   To understand the role of police service about providing internal security.
5   To be aware of the historical process of police service in Turkey.

Week Subject Description
1 Explanations related with lesson s content. Methods on state, surveillance and security researches.
2 What is state General outlook on state theories.
3 Pressure and security instruments of state and Louis Althusser.
4 Surveillance and social inspection for Michel Foucault.
5 Pressure, force and surveillance. Understanding of security in 19.th century.
6 Transformation in the perception of surveillance and technology.
7 Midterm
8 General Evaluaton
9 Internal security, specialization and separation of police from army.
10 Control of city centers: Police services in recent times.
11 Neoliberal policies and security/ pressure instruments of the state. Privatization on security.
12 Application of community policing.
13 Born and progress of police service in Turkey

Theoretical frame will be formed by the instructor of lesson.The student is responsable for analysing a scientific article about lesson s subject and doing/presenting a homework which s subject is selected by student.
