Course Objective

To learn about the emergence of the concept of political parties. To undersand the properties political parties in Turkey.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to reveal the similarities and differences of Turkish political parties.
2   Being able to analyze the theoretical framework.
3   Being able to analyze contemporary Turkish political parties.
4   Being able to explain the function and structure of political parties with examples from different countries.
5   Being able to have information about the history of democracy in Turkey within the framework of the development of political parties in Turkey.

Week Subject Description
1 The concept and definition of political parties.
2 Emergence of political parties in the world, development and typologies.
3 Emergence of political parties in Turkey, Political currents in the Ottoman period.
4 Committee of Union and Progress Party, Freedom and Entente Party.
5 After the Republican political parties, The process of formation of CHF.
6 The single-party period, the opposition political parties and their effects.
7 Preparing the transition to multi-party process, and it accelerated conditions.
8 Midterm.
9 Midterm.
10 Establishment of political parties in Turkey.
11 Law of Political Parties.
12 In democracies, party closure problem.
13 Analysis of political parties in Turkey.
14 Analysis of political parties in Turkey.
