Course Objective

General information about reptiles. Classification and some taxonomical concepts of reptiles. Principal characteristics of tortoises-turtles and their classification. Morphological, ecological, biological properties of the species of Emydidae, Testudinidae, Cheloniidae and Trionychidae families inhabited in Turkey and geographic distributions. Principal characteristics of lizards and their classification. Morphological, ecological and biological properties of the lizard families inhabited in Turkey and their geographic distributions. Principal characteristics of snakes and their classification. Differences between venomous and non-venemous snakes, venomous snakes and their venoms. Morphological, ecological and biological properties of the snake families inhabited in Turkey and their geographic distributions. Doing the collection of reptiles and the methods of keeping alive. Conservation status of reptile species inhabited in Turkey with respect to international conventions.
