Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce the basic concept used in statistics and probability, basic statistical methods and some statistical distibutions. Besides it is aimed to make students expert on the issues such as collecting data, summarizing data by suitable graphics, to obtain the probability distibution of data. In addition, to introduce some of the statistical methods used to analyse data in the field of logistics, to discuss the problem countered in the application and to make the students think about the interpretation of the results.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to define the basic concepts used in probability and statistics
2   Ability to define some of the statistical distibutions and their characteristics
3   ability to classify data and to summarize data by selecting an appropriate graph
4   ability to interpret graphs
5   ability to make basic probability and index calculations
6   ability to estimate and to make inferences on the data in field of logistics
7   ability to make suggestions about future circumctances according to the past data
