Course Objective

Comprehending Geographical Information System, City Information System and other information systems related with spatial data.

Teaching and implementing the Geographical Information System, which is one of the essential parts of urban design and city planning process. For this aim, collecting spatial data related with urban area, saving into databases, editing spatial data, creating attribute and spatial queries, using variable statistical tools, crating thematic maps; Creating three dimensioned topography models; creating different analysis maps related with slope (view shield, slope etc.) Creating virtual city models with topography model. Preparing presentation and layouts showing virtual city model.

Technology management, management of technology and inovasyon approaches. To raise awareness about the importance of technological innovations and entrepreneurship in the professional field.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding GIS and CIS concepts, components and related terminology. Understanding components of the GIS and identify the properties make it spatial information system.
2   Understanding the direction of development GIS technologies. Providing innovation in city planning with technology management.
3   Managing a Geographical Information System process and using one of the recent GIS software.
4   Managing and editing spatial data which are collected for GIS.
