Course Objective

Understanding the functions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Standardization Institute (ISO) and examining how codes/standards related to maritime are prepared. Investigating the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD II) and the related regulations that apply to the design and manufacture stage of watercraft (ie recreational boats & personal watercraft) that have a hull length between 2.5m and 24m (also the regulations include engines and some components that are to be fitted on the recreational craft). Understanding the relevant ISO standards, conformity assessment procedures and making the necessary calculations. Applying/Implementing these rules, regulations, calculations and standards to an example boat and going through the CE certification stages.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding of all the rules regarding recreational boats currently applied and used in the maritime and shipbuilding industry.
2   Learning and analyzing the rules, codes and regulations related to cruising boats in the maritime and shipbuilding industry.
3   Synthesizing relevant rules, bases and standards while designing a pleasure boat.
4   Roughly designing a sample boat within the scope of the standards learned and applying the relevant standards within the scope of the technical file to be established.
5   CE conformity assessment on the designs made.

1 Review of IMO and ISO institutions.
2 International / National standard writing.
3 Examining the RCD I and RCD II.
4 Investigating the national legislation for RCD.
5 Examination of the technical file creation process for RCD.
6 Examination of design-related standards such as; EN ISO 8665, EN ISO 8666, EN ISO 10087 and EN ISO 14095.
7 Examination of construction material and strength calculations: EN ISO 12215.
8 Examination of stability calculations: EN ISO 12217 (EN ISO 14946, STIX).
9 Examination of integration calculations and methods such as EN ISO 15083, EN ISO 11812, EN ISO 9094, EN ISO 12216, EN ISO 16180, EN ISO 8099) and EN ISO 15084.
10 Examination of integration calculations and methods such as EN ISO 15083, EN ISO 11812, EN ISO 9094, EN ISO 12216, EN ISO 16180, EN ISO 8099) and EN ISO 15084.
11 Examination of standards related to machinery and fuel systems (such as EN ISO 16147, EN ISO 16315, EN ISO 18854, EN ISO 21487, EN ISO 10088, EN ISO 14895, EN ISO 15584, EN ISO 15609).
12 Examination of standards related to electrical systems (EN ISO 10133, EN ISO 13297, EN ISO 60092-507 and EN ISO 25197).
13 Preparation of the boat's owner's manual within the scope of EN ISO 10240.
14 Sample boat selection, technical file creation and CE certification application.
