Course Objective

Performing stability analysis of dynamic systems using advanced numerical and computational techniques to design a system and/or its components.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Classification of dynamic systems with respect to their stability states
2   Applying advanced science, engineering and mathematical principles to stability problems.
3   Designing a system and/or its components to satisfy its intended functions.
4   Applying stability and control tenchiques for system design and analysis
5   Using numerical methods and modern computational tools to solve dynamic stability problems.

6 The case of a pair of purely imaginary roots. Transient motion, Periodic motions, Chaotic behavior, assignment

8 Generalizations of the stabilty concept, Homework solution submission
9 Stability of equilibrium. Bifurcation. Large deflection theory of columns, Initially bent columns, Eccentrically loaded columns
10 Inelastic buckling, General theory of columns. Columns with intermediate loading, Columns with variable cross sections
11 Approximate methods in determining buckling loads. Successive approximation method
