Recomended or Required Reading

Textbook(s): Foundation Analysis and Design, Bowles, J. E., McGraw Hill, 1995;

Materials: Related state of the art articles are followed by the students as reading assigments

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theoretical background of machine foundations will be introduced to the students. Special emphasis will be given to fundamentals of structural and soil dynamics. Students will be asked to do homework assignments on various types of machine foundation problems. 3D numerical solution software will also be utilized to illustrate foundation response as a function of dynamic characteristics of soil and machine foundations.
