Course Objective

The first aim of the course is to provide an introduction to theoretical and practical aspects of sampling techniques. The second aim is to present a comprehensive account of sampling theory as it has been developed for use in sample surveys, with illustrations to show how the theory is applied in practice and with a supply of exercises to be worked by the students. The course will cover the main techniques used in sampling practice: simple random sampling, sampling for proportions, the estimation of sample size, ratio estimates , stratification, systematic sampling, cluster sampling.
