Offered By

Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences

Level of Course Unit

Second Cycle Programmes (Master's Degree)

Course Coordinator

PROFESSOR DOCTOR ŞEBNEM GÖKÇEN

Offered to

Geothermal Energy
M.Sc. Geothermal Energy (Non-Thesis-Evening)

Course Objective

Geothermal water resources are exploited in a number of ways. These include spas, heating of housing communities, energy production etc. All such uses end up with physical development on land. Thus those who study in this field need some knowledge of how certain buildings, infrastructure services, car parks and other similar facilities can be provided near or far away from centers of extraction.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to understand the scope of urban design and ecologically-sensitive studies in geothermal fields.
2   to understand the relation between natural resources and the design of physical environments.
3   to explore the existing conditions of geothemal sources in terms of urban design features.
4   to evaluate urban design criteria in geothermal fields.

Course Policies and Rules

Students will be asked to prepare a term paper ( a research project to be defined by the instructor). The context of the assignment will be determined in relation with the discussions held on lectures throughout the term. The students will be asked to relate the knowledge they have obtained to the practice of urban design in geothermal fields. Grade given to the draft version of this paper will be counted as the mid-term exam and final version as the final exam.
