Second Cycle Programmes (Master's Degree)

Course Coordinator

PROFESSOR DOCTOR ERDEM SAYIN

Offered to

PHYSICAL OCEANOGRAPHY

Course Objective

Classification of the waves and basic features will be given. Using the governing diferential equation of wave motion and general wave characteristics it is able to find dispersion relation of each dispersive ocean waves. Free waves wrt their wavelengths will be discussed. Lateral Boundary effects, wave processes, generation and dissipation of the waves will be considered.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Detailed knowledge of wave classification wrt generating forces or mechanism
2   Building the governing diferential equation of wave motion
3   Establishing the characteristics of the waves after solving the wave equations
4   to understand wave processes occuring in an ocean
5   to understand effects of boundaries
