Course Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce major transported trade materials of antiquity like wine, olive oils, etc., production centers, transport systems, commodities and personal items used by the crew on board ancient ships, cargo types and the regional distribution of the cargo.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Recognize the role of trade in socio-economic life of the people who lived in the ancient period
2   Determine the main commercial goods transported in ancient times, such as wine and olive oil production sites
3   Classify the types of cargo used in maritime trade by different civilizations
4   Make regional and periodic distinction of ship cargos
5   Explain the quantities, shipping, markets and commercial contracts of trade goods
6   Recognize the strategic role of the cities and regions that have an important position in maritime trade over the ages
7   Demonstrate an ability to develop collaborative research in multidisciplinary
8   Be able to interpret the development of maritime trade and transport from ancient times to the present
