Course Objective

To teach environmental impact of chemical processes in textile production, limitations, policies and legislations of textile products and production processes, waste reduction, and pollution prevention techniques for textile processes

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Environmental impact of textile processes, waste categories, sustainable production definitions and classifications.
2 Fiber production processes and their environmental impact
3 Regulations about textile chemicals: REACH, GHS, ZDHC, ÖKO-TEX, BlueSign, Higg Index, SIN (substitute it now) List, etc.
4 National and international legislations and regulations about textile processes IPPC, BAT, BREF
5 Chemicals which are used in fiber, yarn and fabric (monomers, solvents, lubricants, spin finishes, knitting oils etc.) and environmental impacts during their removals
6 Environmental impact of sizing and pretreatment processes
7 Midterm, assignment subjects
8 Toxicity of dyestuffs in textiles, azo dyestuffs
9 Environmental impacts of dyeing and printing
10 Environmentally responsible dyeing and printing processes (pollution prevention and waste reduction methods)
11 Environmentally friendly production techniques: supercritical CO2 dyeing, plasma processing etc.
12 Environmental impact of finishing treatments
13 Environmental impact of coating and carpet production processes
14 Presentations of assignments
