Course Objective

General information about design concept and engineering designs, design methods, importance about design process will be given to the students. The concept of creativity and product design, determination of the problem, gathering the information, design evaluation and methods are also examined by using some samples from textile industry. In addition, it s aimed to practice product design studies. Ability to design and to solve the problems based on novel theories/methods and creating the awareness about team work are also among the objectives of the course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Student will be able to understand design process and engineering design.
2   Student will be able to understand design process, methods and evaluation techniques.
3   Student will be able to design a product.
4   Student will be able to evaluate designing products.
5   Student will be able to choose the most appropriate products.

2 Design stages, Definition of problem. PDS(Product Design Specification), Product design characteristics and required processes. Sample practices about textile engineering
3 Creativity. General information about personal and team works. Creativity techniques. Sample practices about textile engineering
4 Decision making processes. Design evaluation. Sample practices about textile engineering.
5 Transformation from design to the product. Ergonomics in design. Aesthetics and functionality
6 Modeling. Design management. Information collection. Presentation techniques
