Course Objective |
The course is aimed at giving a broad outline of surface modification techniques which performed on biomaterials. The biological responses to biomaterials are largely controlled by their surface chemistry and structure. Therefore, the surface characteristics play a role in the functioning of biomaterial. Through the course, current applications of biomaterials will be evaluated to provide an understanding of material bulk and surface properties, degradation processes, various biological responses to the materials and the clinical context of their use. The course will also provide information about surface modification methods which has been widely used to improve the performance of biomaterials in a physiological environment. The objective of the course is to familiarize the student with the major modification techniques of the biomaterials and so that they will be able to make a decision for selecting appropriate methods. |
