Course Objective

Through the utilisation of the heat, the efficiency of cogeneration plant can reach 90% or more. In addition, the electricity generated by the cogeneration plant is normally used Iocally, and then transmission and distribution Iosses will be negligible. Cogeneration therefore offers energy savings ranging between 15-40% when compared against the supply of electricity and heat from conventional power stations and boilers. Cogeneration technique is widely used in the world and in Turkey , and is included in most of graduate programs. dealing with energy , so this course will be useful for the students who wish to specialize in energy savings techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   An understanding of cogeneration
2   An understanding of how to calculate efficiency of cogeneration systems
3   An understanding of energy balances and thermodynamic cycles underlying cogeneration applications
4   Analyze cogeneration plants.
5   Make the economical analysis of cogeneration systems
