Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to give theoretical knowledge about "Basic principles of welded construction designs", "Internal stresses and distortions in welded structures", "Fatigue in welded structures", "Preparation of weld grooves" and "Construction principles and strength calculations in several welded constructions". In this course, using of these techniques in industry are also taught by giving examples.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Teaching of basic principles of welded construction design.
2   Teaching of factors that affect welding ability in fusion welding.
3   Teaching of properties of V, X, U type welding grooves according to welding manufacturing, application conditions and their advantages and disadvantages.
4   Teaching of reasons of distortions in welding and prevention methods of them.
5   Teaching of reasons of groove making and what are the effects of welding groove forms on welding.

9 Construction principles and strength calculations in lap-welding.
10 Construction principles and strength calculations in butt-welding.
11 Construction principles and strength calculations in fillet welding.
12 Midterm exam
13 Construction of frame systems.
14 Cost of welding.
