Course Objective

Sustainable architecture is dealt with three main dimensions of sustainability, which are physical sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability and economical sustainability. The aim of this course is to introduce the multifaceted properties of sustainable architecture with students in different views and to make them discover which political, economic, social and ecological factors threatens sustainability in current architecture in critical point of view. Additionally, students improve themselves to determine a research problem about sustainable architecture, to make presentations and write a research report about their research subjects in this course.

2 Introduction to sustainability and sustainable architecture. What is the main dimensions of sustainability
3 Environmental problems, preservation of physical resources and importance of energy efficiencyarchitectural design and sustainability
4 Socio cultural issues, social identity, cultural values, design for human and sustainable architecture
5 Economical dimension of sustainable architecture
6 The political, economical, social and ecological problems threatening sustainable architecture
7 Determination of the research problem
8 Presentation of the research problem (Student presentation)
9 Literature review and limitation of the research problem

13 Main principles of writing a research report
