Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide the student with fundamental concepts and principles of strength of materials, factor of safety and allowable stress, stress-strain relations, state of simple and combined stresses, different types of stresses and their distributions, elastic curve, buckling and also to emphasize the importance of these structural concepts in formation of the architectural phases of the structure.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describing the fundamental principles and concepts of strength of materials
2   Explaining stresses and strains due to internal forces in structural members
3   Becoming skilful at dimensioning different structural members under various stress conditions
4   Analyzing deformations and deflections of beams with various sectional properties under different loading conditions.
5   Applying appropriate solutions regarding to properties of structural systems and architectural design
