Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to evaluate and analyze the concepts of private and public space from multidimensional views; and to develop design solutions for a theme structured around the framework of a private sphere by considering slope/elevation relations of terrain.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Identify the basic spatial experiences of the "user" and compare and interpret the different types of human spatial behavior in private and public spheres.
2   Define and interpret the spatial counterparts of the basic needs of private living.
3   Collect environmental data; prepare site analysis and architectural programmes, show the priorities of design based on the collected data.
4   Focus and subordinate the design priorities around a main concept and illustrate design solutions.
5   Transfer the design priorities and the data into a design proposal and integrate the idea with the instruments of design such as the spatial organization, architectural style and the components of the building; present and justify the unity of the architectural ideas and language via graphical presentations.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The method is based on the Project/Problem Based Learning. The students respond to the questions posed by the instructors throughout the course and progress by design critiques. The performance of the students are observed and recorded via the executions in the studio, in the mid term and in the final juries.
