Course Objective

This course aims to provide the students to comprehend the reasons of the formations and developments of human settlements and the form of interference of spatial rationals which are depending on time and geography, to define the developing conditions of human sttlements from the first settlements to the mids of the 20. Century, to explain the transformation casaulaties of the settlements in a historical perspective and to discuss the settlement systems in a framework of socio-cultural and econpmic relations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to define the first formation and growth process of shelter and settlement in the historical process (knowledge)
2   Will be able to describe the differencies depending on time and space og the sttelemts and cities (knowledge)
3   Will be able to list the effects and justifications of socio and economic causes on formation of the space (knowledge)
4   Will be able to list the formation and growth process of the cities in historical process (knowledge)
5   Will be able to tell the forms of explanation on the development and growth process of urban areas (knowledge)
6   Will be able to explain the types of sttelemts and it's spatial components (knowledge)

4 Housing and Settlement in Anatolia II: Bronze Age (3500-2000 BC)
5 Analysis of the city concept and the urban components in Classical Age and Hellenistic Civilizations

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be taught in the form of distance learning during the pandemic period. The course will be given thorugh conference presentations on the Sakai program. Students will learn topics by attanding and listening the lectures. The presentation files will be shared with the students through Sakai, under the "course contents" and "resource" segments. In addition, resources and images such as articles and book chapters related to course topics will be shared with students from related platforms.

Assessment Criteria

Describing, telling and defining (knowledge) will be measured by midterm examination,
Describing, telling and listing will be measured by final examination.

Homework will be taken instead of midterm exam in order to test the knowledge of our students. These assignments can be in the form of presentation, report, poster or a video presentation. Details will be announced to students in the Sakai system. Therefore, our students should control and use this platform effectively.

Course Policies and Rules

The course will be conducted online in the form of conference presentations and discussions over the reading list. Students will learn the subjects by attending and listening to the lectures, studying the readings given to them and preparing their midterm and final exam homeworks.
