Course Objective

Learning the reasons for testing of textiles. Understanding the conditions for reliable textile tests. Learning the methods for fiber sampling. Important fibre properties for yarn production and nonwoven production, test methods to measure these properties.
Yarn properties, interactions between yarn and fabric properties. Yarn testing methods

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To learn principal knowledge about textile laboratory and textile testing
2   To learn principal knowledge about the fiber and yarn properties important for textile material production.
3   Skill of applying test methods of textile fibres and yarns
4   Gaining skill and knowledge on testing methods of fibers and yarns.
5   To have knowledge about standards on textile testing methods.

2 Principal knowledge about "sampling".Most used fiber sampling methods.Textile materials and humidity.Practical work
3 Important fibre properties for yarn production and measurement methods. Fiber fineness:importance and measurement methods.Practical work
4 Fibre length: importance and measurement methods.Practical work
5 Fibre strength: importance and measurement methods.Practical work
6 Maturity of cotton fiber, problems with immature cotton fiber, measurement of maturity.Importance of determination of trash.Practical work
7 Fibre measuring systems.Practical work
8 Process control points in yarn production. Sampling and linear density measurement of sliver, roving and yarn. Practical work.
9 The effect of twist direction and twist level of yarns on fabric properties. Determination of twist direction and twist level of yarns.
