Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give the students basic knowledge about computer hardware, computer arithmetic, computer architecture, computer networks, operating systems, programming concepts and script languages.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have basic information about basic computer hardware and software
2   To solve problems by means of computer arithmetic
3   To understand basics of computer architecture
4   To use UNIX Based systems
5   To understand the types of programming languages, and the paradigms
6   To understand a computational problem specification and algorithmic solution and implement a solution in a script language

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Students have to prepare formal reports for their homeworks and submit them to the instructor in the given time period.

Assessment Criteria

The course outcomes, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be evaluated with exams.
The outcomes, 1, 2 and 3 will be mainly evaluated with Midterm Exam. The outcomes 4, 5 and 6 will be mainly evaluated with homeworks.
In the final exam, considering the evaluation ratios of course outcomes 4, 5 and 6 with homeworks, questions will be designed to evaluate course outcomes 1, 2 and 3 mainly, and the outcomes 4, 5 and 6 commonly.

Every student is expected to attend to the lectures (%70), laboratories (%80) and also present their homeworks in a formal document.
