Course Objective

To provide the ability of doing analysis for achieving an enhanced energy performance by having the knowledge of the basic concepts of the energy management, current energy sources, utilization techniques and consumptions, energy audit, underfloor heating systems, control of the flow rate and temperature in the piping systems, calculation methods for insulation of the buildings. To provide general understanding of the methods for improving the efficiency of the vapor power systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Describe the basic concepts of energy and energy management.
2   Explain the Turkey s recent energy sources.
3   Calculate the comparative costs of thermal insulation in buildings.
4   Explain the basic concepts of underfloor heating system and calculate the heat transfer of the system by the given design parameters.
5   Compare the enhanced efficiency of the vapor power systems.

Assessment Criteria

1st and the 2nd learning outcomes will be assessed by the 1st midterm exam, the 4th and 5th learning outcomes will be assessed by the 2nd midterm exam. All the learning outcomes will be assessed by the final exam.
