Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students main theorical knowledges, tables and diagrams, gear design examples for design and manufacture gears and gear reductions. So that, students resize, drawing, manufacturing and performing quality control of gears.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to sort of main functions of different gear systems
2   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to use knowledge of material and production technics to calculation of gear mechanisms.
3   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to drawing gear mechanisms.
4   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to establish between manufacture and quality control of gears
5   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to evaluate results of new designs and verify results of the designs.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theory of the course and examples are taught by presentations. The course is given and solve problems that benefiting from these presentations. It takes in the form of question and answer. It is allowed project-based learning. Students exercising their theorical knowledges and observing gear manufacture, quality control processes with to stay ½ day in three different gear factories.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

There are two midterm exams and it observe that each one of them affects 17.5 percent, final exam affects 50 percent. Each student have to write a factory report including that manufacturing process for a different gear type. These reports affect 15 percent.

Assessment Criteria

ÖÇ1,ÖÇ2,ÖÇ3 and ÖÇ5 are considered by exams, ÖÇ4 is considered by factory reports and by exams

Factory visits will be done 1 or 2 factories that be able manufacturing different types of gears
