Course Objective

It is expected that students will learn fundamentals of speed reduction mechanisms, belt drive and chain mechanisms, kinematics and geometry of gears, spur, helical, bevel, spiral and worm gear mechanisms, .

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to interpret machine desing and knowledge of the material strength.
2   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to use knowledge of material and production technics to calculation of beld-pulley and gear mechanisms.
3   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to design / select mechanisms (elements) such as gears, belts, chains, couplings, sliding and rolling bearings, axles and shafts
4   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to develop new design by taking account of used designs.
5   At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to evaluate results of a new design.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theory of the course and examples are taught by presentations. The course is given and solve problems that benefiting from these presentations. It takes in the form of question and answer.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

There are two midterm exams and a final exam. Success grade is calculated by considering 25% of midterm exams and 50% of final exam. Depending on the situation, one of the midterm exams can be evaluated with the quiz averages (or it can be evaluated with a quiz package).

Assessment Criteria

ÖÇ1,ÖÇ2,ÖÇ3, ÖÇ4,ÖÇ5 are considered by exams.
