Course Objective

To teach to students the descriptive characteristics of the most common fossil organism
groups in rocks, evolutions and taxonomy. To determine the relative ages of the rocks,
formation of environment and geography. To make biostratigraphical correlations. These
information will be used to provide all kinds of geological problem for solving.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to systematics of fossils
2   To be able to describe index fossils.
3   To be able correlate between fossils, formation of environment and age.
4   To be able to make paleontological preliminary examination of rocks.
5   To be able to construct biostratigraphical correlation and biozones.
6   To be able correlate similarities and discrepancies in the fossils groups.
7   To be able to construct biostratigraphy and lithostratigraphy on the basis of fossils.
8   To be able to evaluate adequacy of fossils for the solution of geological problems.
