Course Objective

The objectives of the course are to teach the drilling equipments, uses and types of drillings.
The students are being involved in making a hole such as crushing, abrading, impact, tearing, twisting, cutting, eroding, stirring/sluicing and excavating. With this knowledge, they will be able to alter the drilling method to suit each particular application.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To gain ability about drilling methods and techniques on every field of geological engineering works.
2   To learn choosing the drilling equipments for different applications such as, water wells, mineral exploration studies, site investigations, geothermal energy.
3   To be able to understand the geological formations by observing core and cutting samples
4   To have skill to design a borehole according to the depth, capacity and problems.
5   To be able to calculate the borehole costs.
