Course Objective

- To teach the basic theoretical principles of the seismic methods
- To teach how to collect data in the field
- To determine the layer velocities and thicknesses of the subsurface
- To determine the elastic parameters of ground

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to teach the properties of seismic wave propagation, body and surface waves.
2   Be able to comprehend the properties of seismic data collection arrangement, seismic sources and receivers.
3   Be able to comprehend the seismic propagation properties (reflection, refraction and diffraction).
4   Be able to determine the velocities and thicknesses of subsurface layers with the seismic refraction method.
5   Be able to comprehend the relationship between seismic waves and earth elastic properties.
6   Be able to learn the concepts of seismic reflection, data collection properties, Common Depth Point techniques, folding number.
7   Be able to apply the data processing steps of geometry in seismic reflection, sorting of bad trace, retrieving real amplitude, filtering in time and space media, inverse convolution, stacking, migration etc.
