Course Objective

To provide the understanding of the principal components of hydrological cycle such as precipitation, infiltration, surface flow etc. and to emphasize the importance of them for water resources engineering.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To describe the principal components of hydrological cycle such as precipitation, infiltration, surface flow etc.
2   To understand the importance of hydrological process such as precipitation, infiltration, groundwater, etc. in water resources
3   To establish the relationship between water structures and the components of hydrological cycle, such as precipitation, infiltration, surface flow etc.
4   To discuss changes in the hydrological cycle, caused by human impact
5   To calculate the components of the hydrological cycle, such as precipitation, infiltration, surface flow etc.

2 Applications of Probability Theory and Statistics in Hydrology
3 Precipitation (Measurement of Precipitation, Analysis of Precipitation Records), Calculation of Areal Average Precipitation, Precipitation Intensity-Duration-Recurrence Interval Relationship
4 Evaporation from Water Surface, Evapotranspiration Losses
5 Infiltration, Moisture Content of the Soil
6 Groundwater (Unsaturated and Saturated Zones), Hydraulics of Wells, Determination of Hydraulic Conductivity
7 I. MIDTERM EXAM
8 Surface Flow (Formation and Measurement of Runoff)
9 Rating Curves (Relation of Stage-Discharge and Stream Cross-Section)
