Course Objective

To teach the basic concepts and methods for selection of pumps.

2   To explain the methods for the selection of the pump.
3   To explain the methods of parallel and series connected pumps.
4   To use Methods for effective usage..

1 Overview of Pumps and pump stations.
2 Piston pumps, features and principles of operation.
3 Overview of Pumps and pump stations perations.
4 Single-acting, double acting pumps.
5 Suction, suction pumps.
6 Centrifugal pumps, their characteristics and working principles.
7 Electrical motors and controls.
8 Characteristic curves of pumps.
9 Reciprocating and centrifugal pumps connected in series and parallel.
10 Helical pumps, special types of pumps, water ram, Mamut pump, air pumps.
11 Dimensioning of pumping stations.
12 Booster pumping stations and special equipments.

14 Controls of pumps automatically.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lecture supported by visual presentations and also problems will be solved. Discussion
platform will created to clear the subject. Preparation of assignment and project are neccessary.
