Course Objective

Turkey is a very lucky country for its natural and cultural beatuies. Understanding of tourism is changing in all around the world. People are identifiying geological heritage, geotourism and geopark areas in order to conserve natural beatuies and to caryy them to the future. New areas and job opputunities are being opened for our country and our students. The aim of this course is to present these new terms in geology and to evaluate our natural and cultural values.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to determine the term geological heritage.
2   To be able to identify geoconservation areas.
3   To be able to create routes for geotourism.
4   To be able to determine geopark areas.
5   To be able to suggest and develop geopark areas.
6   To be able to summarize the relation of geological heritage and education.

1 What is Geological Heritage Geological Heritage and related terms.
2 National and international Agencies working on Geological Heritage
3 Proposal and Preparation of Geological Heritage lists
4 Why and how to conserve our Geological Heritage
5 Local, regional and international importance of Geological Sites.
6 Places that can be proposed for Geological Heritage list and some samples. Volcanic, metamorphic and sedimentary petrology, structures and textures, phenomena and regions.
7 Places that can be proposed for Geological Heritage list and some samples. Mineralogy-Economics
8 Places that can be proposed for Geological Heritage list and some samples. Structural, geomorphological figures, Geological characteristics on continental or oceanic scale, antique quarries.
9 Legal issues on geoconservation.
10 Geology and archeology, geology and tourism
11 Geological HEritage and importance of education
12 What is to be done to prepare and develop geological heritage list, geotourism capacity and geopark areas of Turkey
