Course Coordinator

PROFESSOR DOCTOR MUSTAFA YAVUZ ERGÜN

Offered to

Textile Engineering

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give information to textile engineering students about the basic concepts of organic chemistry, organic molecules, structure, properties, synthesis and reactions and explain the importance of norganic chemistry in textile and their daily life.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course students will be able to: Recognize classes of organic molecules and nomenclature
2   be able to relate the organic bond types with bond energies, bond lengths and molecular geometries
3   by using the the concept of conjugation, delocalization, electronegativity and dipole moment will be able to discuss inductive, mesomeric and steric effects in organic molecules with different functional groups and bond types
4   will be able to write organic formulas to in different ways and discuss optical activity, acidity and alkalinity of organic molecules by making their configurational and conformational analysis
5   be able to have sufficient knowledge to explain organic reactions and reaction mechanisms by understanding the issues that form the basis of organic chemistry terms and definitions
